KNOWLEDGE SESSION: PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION BILL 2019
Wednesday, 15th January 2020 15.00 hrs - 17.00 hrsSCCI Office & Webinar, New Delhi
Data has been given many news names- ‘the new oil’, ‘the new gold’, ‘the new currency’ and such. What we can say is that, it is probably the most useful and powerful resource of the 21st century. It forms the building blocks of Industry 4.0 and our global digital economy.
Largely inspired by European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)—adopted in 2016 and enforced in 2018— the Indian government put forward its own version of the first data protection bill in 2018. It was tabled in the Parliament on Dec 11 as “Personal Data Protection Act, 2019“ which was later referred to the joint select committee for review. It is expected to be tabled again before the end of the forthcoming budget session to be soon passed into a law.
It has become increasingly important for organizations dealing with people’s personal data to have a data governance framework, to help relook at data management systems which better regulate practices to protect individual privacy and personal data, whilst ensuring that companies that are doing business in India and competing in the global marketplace have a regulatory framework that is coherent and efficient and suited to the needs of the digital economy.
The Chamber in collaboration with our member company, Gislen Software, and knowledge partner, PwC, invite you to join us for an interesting discussion on key insights from this new bill, the possibilities and challenges before us and its implications for the industry.
