Thursday, 31st May 2018 14.00 hrs - 16.00 hrs

The Swedish Chamber of Commerce India together with the Embassy of Sweden in India and the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) cordially invites you to join us for a discussion on water governance and responsible business. The event will address the water governance issues in India and deliberate upon the opportunities and challenges to be considered by various stakeholders along the textile supply chain.

The textile sector is one of the major contributors to India’s exports with a potential to reach $185 billion by 2025. It is also one of the largest employers providing direct employment to over 45 million and indirect to 20 million people, of which almost 60% are women. While the future for the Indian textile industry looks promising, the growth and sustainability of the sector is highly dependent on how water risks are managed. Inefficient water usage and lack of treatment of wastewater and discharge result in water pollution.

SIWI has for the past five years implemented the Sweden Textile Water Initiative (STWI) with industries and support from the Swedish Government focusing on sustainable water and waste water management in supply chains. The strategic solutions and recommendations of this initiative will be shared and discussed between relevant government, industry, NGOs, and professionals. At the event the supplier units associated with this initiative will also be felicitated.

Date & time: Thursday, May 31, 14.00 - 16.00 hrs followed by hi-tea

Venue: SCCI Office, C/o Business Sweden, Embassy of Sweden, Nyaya Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi
