Alfa Laval India and Usha International partner for starting a Sewing School cum Production Centre as a CSR initiative, for women in a remote village named Velvand. While Usha International has been running this initiative very successfully in many states across India, this is the first Production Centre in the state of Maharashtra.

The village consists of hamlets of people whose main occupation is growing rice which occupies them for a period of three to four months in a year. As there are no industries in the area, the village is not able to have any other means of livelihood. Also, most of the population is illiterate and their children are the first generation going to school. This initiative of Alfa Laval will empower the women in the village by providing a means of livelihood
